![]() Lennox Head N.S.W. Australia January 2002 Freedom, what is freedom to each one of us? Everyone has a different view of what freedom means, let me share some thoughts on what may be possible. Sitting on the sand at Lennox Head early in the morning watching the surfers out riding the waves. As one takes off in the early glistening sunlight and pristine conditions he or she must feel a range of emotions wash over them as suddenly, not 3 feet away a dolphin leaps from the water and joins them on the wave, the feeling that this must give would I'm sure, be extraordinary. It even appears that the beautiful creature is winking at the surfer, somehow conveying a message of solitude and serenity and maybe saying, hey things aren't so bad if you don't let things get you down. Look after my home and I'll look after you, there is plenty of space for us all. A group of surfers sitting behind the line up patiently waiting for the next set shares the space with a pod of playful dolphins who frolic and jump seemingly without fear. Why wouldn't they, at this point in time neither group seems to have a care in the world, this moment may not last long but the memory will remain embedded in conscious and subconsciousness for much time forward. What is it about seeing creatures in the wild that stirs within us such emotion? Does seeing them apparently doing as they please stir feelings within us that continually have us questioning our very being and what we want from our lives. The dolphins may be saying to us that we can actually change if we want to. Fear is the key and if we overcome our fear, we can and will be free, for now and forever. Simon Bond January 2002. ![]() |
